As tough as it may sound, the answer is yes. Some may buy costly variegated plants only for these to revert to natural color later on. But no worries, there are some steps that you can do to maintain the variegation of your plants.
Ample Light

Variegated plants have less chlorophyll as compared to other regular plants. Because of this, they require more light exposure. It needs ample and indirect light for it maintains its variegated form. If it has leggy and stunted growth, it needs some light. Just a note, do not overexpose it to the sun, for it may also burn its leaves.
Sensitivity to Temperature

The variegated plant may not like too hot nor too cold temperature. It has to receive just enough humidity for it to grow continuously into its reverted form. Otherwise, there may be changes in its colors – making it like an ordinary one.

Is it possible to force a plant to be varied?

Sad to say, no. Variegation is a natural process – it is based on the genetic component of a plant. Therefore, you cannot do anything to force a regular all-green plant to become a variegated one. So, if you’re blessed enough to have a variegated plant, then tend to it quickly and give it the utmost TLC (tender loving care). Otherwise, it may also revert into its non-variegated form when not given the needed attention.
